Sylvain Debaisieux (°1993, Bruxelles) est un saxophoniste et improvisateur en constante recherche de nouvelles sonorités et de nouveaux moyens d’expression sur son instrument.

Le son, le flux, l’énergie et le rythme sont des points centraux dans son jeu, qu’il développe et expérimente au sein de divers groupes basés en Belgique, notamment Pentadox, Stéphane Galland & The Rhythm Hunters, Lynn Cassiers Imaginary Band, Hélène Duret ‘Synestet’, parmi d’autres.

Après avoir étudié avec John Ruocco et Jeroen Van Herzeele au Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel et avoir obtenu son diplôme de Master avec grande distinction, Sylvain Debaisieux reçoit une bourse de la Belgian American Educational Foundation (B.A.E.F) qui lui permet d’étudier à la New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music à New York durant un an et de suivre des cours avec des musiciens et professeurs renommés tels que Ellery Eskelin, Mark Shim, Anthony Coleman, Joe Morris, Ingrid Laubrock, etc.

En 2012, il représente la Belgique au sein du « European Saxophone Ensemble », un projet dirigé par le saxophoniste français Guillaume Orti avec lequel il se produit dans plus d’une dizaine de pays européens.

A partir de 2014, il participe à l’enregistrement d’albums, notamment ‘Heptatomic’ d’Eve Beuvens (2015, label Igloo), Lynn Cassiers ‘Imaginary Band’ (2018, Clean Feed), Stéphane Galland & The Mystery of KEM (2018, Outnote records), Pentadox – Between (2018, Auto-prod.), Fragments of Expansion (2020, WERF), The Workshop – In and Out (2021, Onze heures Onze) et se produit régulièrement dans les salles les plus prestigieuses de Belgique : Bozar, Flagey, Handelsbeurs, CC Nona, Concertgebouw Brugge, etc.

Il est lauréat de la fondation Horlait-Dapsens en 2016 et gagne le Jong Jazz Talent Gent 2018 avec le groupe Pentadox. Ils sont également finalistes du tremplin jazz d’Avignon en 2020 et se produisent au Belgian Jazz Meeting en 2022.

Il obtient en 2023 une bourse de la communauté flamande pour être artiste en résidence à la Cité Internationale des Arts de Paris pendant une période de trois mois.

Sylvain Debaisieux (°1993, Brussels) is a saxophonist and improviser in constant search of new sounds and new ways of expression on his instrument.

Sound, flow, energy and rhythm are central to his playing, which he develops and experiments with in various Belgium-based groups, including Pentadox, Stéphane Galland & The Rhythm Hunters, Lynn Cassiers Imaginary Band, Hélène Duret ‘Synestet‘, among others.

After studying with John Ruocco and Jeroen Van Herzeele at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel and obtaining his Master’s degree with great distinction, Sylvain Debaisieux received a scholarship from the Belgian American Educational Foundation (B.A.E.F) which allowed him to study at the New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York for a year and to follow courses with renowned musicians and teachers such as Ellery Eskelin, Mark Shim, Anthony Coleman, Joe Morris, Ingrid Laubrock, etc.

In 2012, he represented Belgium in the « European Saxophone Ensemble« , a project led by the French saxophonist Guillaume Orti, with whom he performed in more than ten European countries.

Since 2014, he has participated in the recording of albums, including Eve Beuvens’ ‘Heptatomic’ (2015, Igloo label), Lynn Cassiers’ ‘Imaginary Band’ (2018, Clean Feed), Stéphane Galland & The Mystery of KEM (2018, Outnote records), Pentadox – Between (2018, Auto-prod. ), Fragments of Expansion (2020, WERF), The Workshop – In and Out (2021, Onze heures Onze) and performs regularly in the most prestigious venues in Belgium: Bozar, Flagey, Handelsbeurs, CC Nona, Concertgebouw Brugge, etc.

He is a laureate of the Horlait-Dapsens foundation in 2016 and wins the Jong Jazz Talent Gent 2018 with the band Pentadox. They were also finalists at the Avignon Jazz Springboard in 2020 and performed at the Belgian Jazz Meeting in 2022.

In 2023 he received a grant from the Flemish community to be in artist in residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts de Paris for a period of three months.
